Every year, thousands of people make a promise to themselves: new year, new me. And that mindset tends to last no longer than a week before they revert to old habits. Why? Because we as people tend to focus on the wrong things more often than not. We focus on what people think of us, we compare ourselves to others, and we lose track of what’s important.

There are a few things guaranteed to help you make a success of your year, if you prioritize them and put in the time and effort they require. Want to know what these things are? This post is for you.

Productivity

Most goals you set for yourself are going to require some form of productivity. Whether they’re personal goals, educational goals, health related goals or work-related goals. Not much in this world can be achieved without your putting in some energy and time. So, how can you be productive? First off: plan. You can use schedules, calendars, notes – whatever helps you know what you need to prioritize. Secondly, you’ll need to determine which areas need more productivity and how you can improve its. Do you need a study group? Do you need a personal trainer? Do you need an organization strategy? Once you know what you need in order to be productive, that productivity will be second nature.

Happiness

It’s a cliché, we know. But let’s be real – who doesn’t want to be happy? Happiness tends to be a goal everyone has, but no one actually writes down or works towards. Why is that? It’s because most of us believe it’s an unattainable goal. It’s easy to see why people think this way: there are so many other things taking up our time and energy that happiness tends to fall away. So, this year, make it a goal to do more things that bring you joy, and try living life to your fullest. You may be surprised at what an effect that has on other aspects of your life.

Health

If 2020 taught us anything, it’s that we cannot take our health for granted. That’s why you should make it a priority this year. Aside from taking the necessary steps to reduce the spread of Covid-19, you should be doing everything you can in order to boost your health. This will look different for everyone, but the two main things you should aim for are exercising and eating healthier. These don’t need to be drastic changes – start by going for a ten minute walk each day, or cutting out carbonated drinks.

Goals

Nearly everyone sets goals for themselves at the beginning of the year, but very few people actually do anything to make those goals a reality. In 2021, try to prioritize your goals. This will be much easier if you set realistic goals, as you’ll likely give up if your goals are too hard to reach. Alongside setting your goals, you may find it helpful to have a plan of action on how you are going to achieve each of these goals.
